The Story
Somos la conexión: We are the connection between land and sky. For Latinas like Dani and friends, seeking summits in the alpine creates connections—to the essence of self, community, and heritage.
This short documentary uses a duet of lyrical spoken word to surface the connection that these two Latina mountain runners find in their pursuit of cumbres (summits).

Dani Reyes-Acosta
Filmmaker and professional athlete Dani Reyes-Acosta aims to inspire individual action and collective communion through self-care and self-determination found in the outdoors. After leaving cushy corporate life to find her way back to her roots, she ticked rock climbs and ski lines across Argentina, Chile, Canada, and the USA on a circuitous path to self-actualization. Through words, visuals, and film, Dani’s storytelling work helped her heal, grow, and connect to community and land, leading her to a path of collective liberation.
Based in SW Colorado, Dani is Mexican, Filipina, and Mestiza—and proudly reclaiming the complexities of her heritage as a food producer, cultivator, and legacy Coloradan. Her goal as storyteller is to find the limits of her possible, telling the story of Mother Earth’s most impacted places and people. In community with ourselves and the world at large, we’ll unEarth the power within—to form a better future for us all.
Inspiration
To find the root of my being, la raíz de mi ser, I had to first seek the sun, in his highest realms. But to grow, and flourish, skyward, I first needed to ground myself. Between the Earth and the sky stand I: a tall tree connecting, transmuting, through it all.
